Travis Association for the Blind/Austin Lighthouse (TAB) a non-profit organization, was founded in 1934 by Dr. Henry L. Hilgartner and other civic-minded citizens of Austin to provide a setting where blind men and women could come to learn skills and create products that were sold door to door.

Today, Travis Association for the Blind stays true to the mission established in 1934 by providing opportunities for economic and personal independence for people who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf blind by creating, sustaining, and improving employment. Job Summary

The Industrial Engineer for Travis Association for the Blind (TAB) is responsible for designing production layouts and procedures with the sole purpose of enhancing productivity, decreasing costs, eliminating wastefulness, and ensuring that the quality standard is maintained at all times. They make research to discover diverse ways to utilize other workers, machines, materials, information, and also energy to make a product or provide one of the best services effectively.


Responsibilities

  • Champion lean manufacturing and continuous improvement projects
  • Design, document and maintain the following:

Ø Process flow diagrams, work instructions, and failure analysis report

Ø One piece flow and cell manufacturing techniques

Ø Workplace organization and line/labor balancing

Ø Ergonomic enhancement of workstations

Ø Labor standards through time and motion studies or predetermined time methodologies

Ø Process routing for labor and bills of materials for all production projects

Ø Drawings (including CAD), descriptions, & tolerances of products, tooling and equipment

  • Coordinate and assist Operations, Sales, and Partnered Clients on:

Ø Product realization efforts from initial research to market launch

Ø Packaging design/redesign efforts

Ø Cost versus benefit project analysis

Ø Outputs and material requirements

  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment
  • Assume additional responsibilities, perform additional duties and complete special projects as assigned

· Complies with TAB's policies and procedures.

Minimum Education and Experience

· Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical field

· Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment and Enterprise Resource Planning systems

· Excellent computer skills which include working knowledge of Microsoft Office products

· Familiarity with Quality Management System - ISO 9001-2015

· Familiarity with product costing

· Ability to create or edit 3-D drawings in AutoCAD or similar programs

· Ability to read typical component specifications, schematics and drawings

  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
  • The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills:

Ø Ability to assume leadership role in regard to special projects and duties

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint; data entry, data processing, communication tools and payroll and human resources software

· Strong empathy and interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively with supervisors/managers, coworkers, vendors, and other departments.

Supervisory Responsibility

· May supervise 1-3 employees, to include an Operations Analyst. Also regularly oversees and manages projects and collaborates with peers


Communication & Contacts Required

· Employees, departments, managers, executives, vendors, community members


Decision Making/Judgment Required

· Makes decisions as per Standard Operation Procedures and Company Policies


Physical Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to:

· Sit and type at a computer terminal for up to 8 hours per day with appropriate breaks and perform tasks that require fine dexterity and repetitive motions using the arms, hands, wrists and fingers.

· Stand for up to 6 hours per day for presentation of training

  • Lift, carry up to 25 lbs.

· Have strong dexterity capabilities to grasp, assemble, and manipulate objects.

· Concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.

· Coordinate the movement of arms, legs, and torso together when the whole body is in motion.

  • Bend, stoop, squat, adjust position for 20% of time
  • Work in conditions with varying temperature, including cold and/or heat
