Travis Association for the Blind/Austin Lighthouse (TAB) a non-profit organization, was founded in 1934 by Dr. Henry L. Hilgartner and other civic-minded citizens of Austin to provide a setting where blind men and women could come to learn skills and create products that were sold door to door.

Today, Travis Association for the Blind stays true to the mission established in 1934 by providing opportunities for economic and personal independence for people who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf blind by creating, sustaining, and improving employment. We continue to grow and expand the services we provide to blind Texans.

Job Sumamry

The Production Lead will support the Travis Association for the Blind (TAB) mission by assisting supervisors/managers and employees in the performance of work to ensure products are finalized and delivery deadlines are met. The Lead sets an example for others by demonstrating a positive attitude and enthusiastic approach to getting work produced on time and with a high level of quality.


· Assists supervisors and production workers perform assigned tasks to ensure all products are produced within expected specifications and delivery deadlines for product are on schedule and met.

· Assists supervisors/managers in training co-workers to perform their expected job duties

· Supports employees in assigned work area with production-related questions or concerns

· Helps ensure all employees are following safety and housekeeping policies by making sure work areas are safe, clean and presentable

· Inspects all stations and helps distribute materials

· Verifies all completed products for accuracy

· Creates shipment paperwork/labels for departments

· Ensures waste (e.g. material scrap & labor inefficiencies) are kept to a minimum

· Assists Production Supervisor with non-supervisory tasks (administrative, tactical).

· Communicates and attends meetings as scheduled

· Follows all safety and security policies

· Completes required off-the-floor training such as online compliance training

· Understands and complies with TAB's policies and procedures

· Behaves in accordance with TAB's Core Values of Leadership, Integrity, Growth & Innovation, Heart and Teamwork (LIGHT)

· Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of safety around heavy machinery

· Basic Mathematics

· Manufacturing process knowledge

· Knowledge of applicable Standards and Procedures

· Critical thinking skills

· Time management skills

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

· The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing or in alternate form.

· The ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, coworkers, and other departments.

Experience and Education Requirements

· High School Diploma or Equivalent

· Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing

· Inspection or supervisory background is a plus

Supervisory Responsibility

· None directly. Assists supervisors/managers in training and mentoring team members

Communication & Contacts Required

· Employees, managers, executives, vendors

Decision Making/Judgment Required

· Will follow directions of supervisors/managers and follow Standard Operating Procedures

Physical Requirements

· Have strong dexterity capabilities to grasp, assemble, and manipulate objects.

· The ability to stand or sit for 7-10 hours a day.

· The ability to lift up to 10-25 lbs items/products repeatedly.

· The ability to navigate safely in small or large areas/environment.

· Prolonged periods of working on a computer

  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, twist body, adjust position for 20% of time
